Genre conventions and Image

Indie Pop/ alternative Rock, are quite unique. Indie trends to be shown through the different clothing in which they wear. This look is a fairly retro and vintage style. Popular bands are able to trend set easily to the public if they wear eye-catching unique dress as the public then think it is acceptable and 'cool' to do the same. This subculture is aimed at teenagers and up as many different people like this style and music. The bands tend to have 'do it yourself' attitudes.

Bastardo Clip

Imaging themselves being in a magazine, being a cartoon- crossing out the cartoon. Getting angry with the man for stealing her guitar- hyper-reality
Voyeurism- The woman plays the main lead.
Intertextuality- comic book and magazines. 'Antonio' appears in the comic book. quotes appear that match the lyrics to the song on the comic book. Based on 'Jackie' magazine, vintage style- targeted at older female audience.

Close up of

Boot Camp- Video Analysis

Analysis of 3 music videos- Boot camp
  1. Conceptual- On Hold.
This video draws attention to the repetition of the movements to create the feeling of anger. There are no lyrics in the video, the message is portrayed through the rhythm and visual aspects.
Using a lot of repetition to create the mood of the music video. The clips are made up of repeated movements, the clips are then repeated occasionally throughout the sequence. Throughout the clips it helps to build up suspense to the end clip when the door opens. The clips set the mood of anger. Each clip is synchronised to the beat. The use of close up adds emphasis to the actions, opposed to the surroundings, to enhance the effect of the suspense it creates and also the feeling of anger.

  1. Performance Video- Kasabian days are forgotten
A performance video conveys a sense of in-concert experience. This is shown by the band displaying their set in the music video, similarly to what they would in a concert. The video is also quite plain, apart from the music vibes which are portrayed by the use of white lines with a black/grey background. Close ups are used to show the instruments and for the audience to relate to the music and to draw attention to the music. The set up of the video, makes you feel as if you are watching them in a concert from varied angles. The song lyrics, beat and movement relates, for example when the amp breaks on the chorus beginning.

  1. Narrative- Where have you been
Explains to the audience that the music video represents a love story. The lyrics to the video are related to the love story, the images also represent the story as they are spending a lot of time together. The projected clouds shows that she is on cloud nine in her relationship. ‘got to let it go’ lyrics are sung when she throws a dart at the board to show her anger, this scene shows that she has become angry towards her loved one. Between the start of the clip and the middle, the dynamics change between the two because they are loved up and then they begin to argue. From the projection of the clouds, to when they argue, the projection turns into flames to suggest her world is going up in flames. Flames commutate anger. The use of close ups in this film help to portray the emotion throughout each stage of the relationship between the two to suggest to the audience the story line.
